Migrant with diphtheria who died in central Manston is named

One migrant released after a week's detention at the Manston Star clearance center in Kent is 31-year-old Husean Hseb. The man, who had contracted diphtheria, died at QEQM hospital in Margate on November 19, having arrived in the UK on a small boat seven days earlier. An inquest into his death has been launched in Maidstone. In court, he was described as an immigrant of Kurdish origin who spoke no English. The Interior Ministry initially said there was no evidence that he died of an infectious disease. But a follow-up test for diphtheria has since returned a positive result. The inquest found the man was taken to the emergency room by Border Force on November 14 when he could not eat or drink and was having trouble swallowing. He was treated and eliminated back to Manston. On November 19, he was again taken to the hospital, where he suffered from increasing shortness of breath, fever and drowsiness. Blood tests later explained multi-organ failure. The investigation has been adjourned to May 30 next year, when a preliminary investigation is expected to take place. Diphtheria is a highly contagious infection that affects the nose and throat and sometimes causes skin ulcers. According to the NHS website, it is spread through coughing and sneezing or through close contact with an infected person.
